How We Teach English Through Scripture

Lokosmos Academy exists to raise Christian readers who can understand both the Word and the world. By learning the Bible and English together, students build biblical knowledge, strong reading skills, and a wider view of history and culture. Every workbook follows the same six-part structure — here's why.

The Six-Part Method

Every part carries the same six sections, in the same order, so progress is always easy to track no matter which part a student is on.

Word Study
Seven key words from the passage, anchored to the actual verse they appear in — not memorized in isolation, but learned the way they're actually used in the text.

Understanding
Comprehension questions that check whether the student actually followed what happens in the passage — the basic reading-comprehension layer every part builds on.

Literary Craft
Goes past what the passage says to how and why it's told that way — repetition, structure, and point of view, the same literary tools used in reading-comprehension exams.

Wisdom
Four deeper challenges with no single-word answer — students read, weigh evidence, and reason it out. Each part also carries a Treasure Wisdom box on real places, archaeology, and ancient daily life.

World Discovery (SAT/TOEFL)
A reading passage on a topic connected to the story, built to practice the same reading-comprehension skills tested on the SAT and TOEFL.

Writing
A print-only writing prompt, not part of the online score — a chance to put what was learned into the student's own words on paper.

What We're Careful About

📖
Keyed to one translation
Every workbook is built to match the ESV (English Standard Version). We don't reproduce Scripture in full — students are guided to read the referenced passage in their own Bible.
⚖️
Neutral on hard questions
On questions like the age of the earth or the length of the creation days, where sincere Christians read the text differently, we state what the passage says and note that interpretations differ — we don't teach students to take one side.

Fact-checked history
The archaeology and history in every Treasure Wisdom box is checked against reliable sources. When we find an error, we correct it.

Independent, unaffiliated
Lokosmos Academy is an independent study resource. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Crossway, any Bible publisher, or any particular denomination.

Who This Is

Lokosmos Academy isn't a large publisher — it's a project being built one book at a time. Today that means one finished volume of Genesis, with the rest of the roadmap being built out step by step.
